![]() It takes a little effort, and you will most surely need to learn how to use some features to the fullest: things like using shifts, how to create forms and pathways that aren't purely geometrical - it is impressive how people think that everything must be a square or rectangle -, how do trees and forests spread. ![]() However, doing beautifiul maps with RTP only and respecting the grid is possible. Parallax Mapping is strong and give a very unique and fairly "better" atmosphere do your game, but I like to think that it isn't because you can merge a good number of tilesets or create custom decoration at a whim: actually, the greatest asset it brings is being able to put things off-grid, and working with light and shadows in a far better way than RPG Maker should be able to. I also started using RPG Maker 2000 shortly after the English patch, and used all the ones after that - from 2003 to XP to VX and even the PS2 one -, so I had a lot of time to experiment.Īs it is right now, the community is really paying attention to the graphics. Using RPG Maker mostly for fun and doing maps on demand for a few friends, I am a fairly experienced mapper. I do believe there is a strong prejudice against RTP only games, but I find it interesting that few people take time to learn how to make their maps look natural and how to make better use of the RPG Maker's default tools.
